What is protein and why is it important?

Protein is a macro-nutrient meaning your body needs a relatively large amount of it to function. However, unlike other macronutrients (Fat and Carbohydrates) our bodies do not store protein, meaning it needs to be sourced from foods/supplements.

Why do I need a protein supplement?

There are huge benefits for a protein rich diet including satiating appetite and curbing hunger levels, boosting metabolism/increase fat burning and bone health.

Changing lifestyles and goals puts additional stress and requirements on our body from a nutritional perspective. These may include exercising more, achieving and maintaining a leaner body composition or just trying to lose more body fat.

Why choose Nakdnu lean protein blend?

  • Next level taste – we pride ourselves on the taste of our protein blends, you’re not going to find a better tasting one on the market.
  • Our unique protein blend – The aim of our blend was to create a blend that assisted the fat burning process and improve overall wellness. Ingredients such as
    • Acetyl L-Carnitine encourages the body to use stored body fat as energy and may also improve cognitive ability and mood
    • Green Tea to increase your metabolism and encourage your body to burn more fat
    • Vitamins & Minerals – Micronutrients for overall healthy bodily function

Whey Protein and Branched Chain Amino Acids

    • Whey protein – to promote lean muscle development + muscle recovery and repair
    • BCAA’s – to help maintain lean muscle mass

    Natural Fat Burners

    • Green Tea – to increase metabolic rate leading to more fat burning
    • Acetyl L-Carnitine - encourages the body to use stored body fat as energy instead of eating away at muscle for energy and also increases mental focus

    Vitamins & Minerals

    • Potassium and sodium – prevents muscle cramps, assists healthy heart function and balances out electrolytes in your body
    • Additional Vitamins & Minerals – to boost energy, vitality and general health

There are a lot of misconceptions about protein since it is a supplement that is regularly used amongst gym goers and sometimes athletes. However, most of the stigmas attached to it are untrue and we're here to shed some light on the whole topic!

    So, what is protein?

Protein is a macronutrient that is essential to building and repairing muscle and cells in the body. It is commonly found in animal products, and can also be present in other sources such as nuts, legumes and vegetables.

Chemically, protein is made up of amino acids. amino acids are the building blocks of protein, and protein is the building blocks of muscle and basically every cell in your body.

Amino acids can either be Essential (ones the body can produce itself) or Non-essential amino acids (derived from food, and mainly things like meat and animal products and sometimes small traces in vegetables).

When protein is utilised in the body it helps to fuel and repair muscle, which helps metabolism and helps you build and maintain immunity. Protein also helps you stay full so you don’t feel the need to binge eat as much because research has shown that protein rich foods have a satiety effect.

Why is it important from an exercise perspective?

Anyone undertaking any kind of exercise routine is definitely going to need more protein than someone who doesn’t. This is because when you exercise, you are effectively tearing and breaking muscle fibers apart, which then need to be repaired by the body, requiring protein to do so.

If you are exercising but find yourself with low energy or feel that you are not building any muscle, it may be down to not having enough protein in your diet.

Why is protein important in general?

Protein is an important component of every cell in the body, for example our hair and nails are mostly made of protein and your body uses protein to build and repair tissue. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscle, cartilage, skin, and blood.

Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it. Vitamins and minerals, which are needed in only small quantities, are called "micronutrients."

However, unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply and that’s why it’s important to consume it in your diet!

Hopefully this helps breaks some barriers about protein and its uses. If you have anymore questions feel free to contact us :)

    Lean protein powder

Super yum! Normally chocolate flavoured protein isn't amazing, but the nakdnu one is yum and easy to blend! Would recommend combining it with a scoop of the unflavoured collagen powder.

    Yummo!

This is my 2nd time purchasing this powder, by far the best chocolate flavoured protein powder I've ever had (and I've tried a lot). It's like a creamy chocolate milkshake (I blend it with 150-200mls of soya milk, 50-100mls of water and a handful of ice). I sometimes add a tiny bit of coffee too, no more Starbucks Frappochino's needed for me!

Ordering to delivery was literally 2 days, I could see it was packed and dispatched within hours of me ordering, the rest was obviously up to the couriers. Awesome service. Thank uuuu

Thank u, this will be my forever go to!
